Mixed-up Chameleons News (MUC)-(Kindergarten Preparation Class)-Today during learning team time, we worked on remembering our full name, age, address, phone number and birthday. We also made a hand to help remind us of the five senses. We glued an item to each finger to represent each sense. We sang our “Welcome song”, had Cooper Hinkel pick our music and movement song, “Be My Friend”, reviewed the color “rojo”, and sang our “Pete the Cat” song. We read a book about the months of the year, read the poem “December” from Chicken Soup With Rice, and participated in our calendar activities. We rocked out with the number 10, changed our names to start with the letter “L”, and had a shape lesson about rectangles. We also opened our Mystery Box and found something to lick: lollipops! We said the Pledge of Allegiance, learned about our solar system and the seven continents. We read the books If You Take a Mouse to the Movies and It’s Christmas David by David Shannon. We also enjoyed a visit from Father Eric who explained the advent wreath to us and read the story of Jesus birth from the Bible, as well as the book, Santa Mouse.
Very Hungry Caterpillar (VHC) and Very Busy Spider News (VBS)- This week we worked very hard on learning to navigate our learning team time. We started the day with individual time in our learning centers, then broke up into our blue, red, and yellow teams to rotate through the centers. During this time, we assessed color recognition, shape recognition, and body part recognition. We also made some special Christmas ornaments. This week we read the book The Sparkle Box that Abby Meiners brought in. (A really meaningful book about Christmas that I highly recommend. ) We also read a book about the letter “L” that Ella E brought in, and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell. We also were excited to see what was in our Mystery Box every day. On Monday, we had something we could listen to: A CD with a “High Five” song by TMBG to go with our unit on the five senses. On Tuesday, we had something that we see everyday in the mirror: pictures of all of our preschool pals that we used to make our special Christmas ornaments. On Thursday, we had more things to listen to: instruments! We also explained that if Jesus was not born, we would not have Christmas.
Friday Enrichment Class News-(Mrs. Susan)-We will continue with our Holiday theme this week. After making trees last week, the children will work on ornaments for their trees, and hopefully yours at home. They have all enjoyed our smaller class size, allowing for a lot of one on one time. During this time, we have been working on our cutting skills and writing our names. This week our letter will be M. The kids love each week shouting our letter when we get to it in the alphabet and sharing their letter item.
Brown Bear/Polar Bear News: (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)- Next week is more Christmas fun. We will continue with our Christmas stories, fingerplays and songs. The letter of the week will be L.
The children enjoyed picking out a present for you on Monday and making their holiday wreaths. Today, we played with magic playdough. The playdough starts out white, but as you play it turns a color! Your playdough should last for a few weeks or even longer if you refrigerate it. So, have fun playing at home as well!
