Preschool Office News:  (Mrs. Cindy)- Please bring your Halloween party donations to school a few days before the party.  It helps to make our set-up easier.  Also, I will be putting tuition reminders in your child’s mailbox towards the end of October.  If your child has recently had a birthday, you will be receiving a new child medical form to update at your child’s well-visit.  Thanks so much!

Mixed-up Chameleons News-Today was jam packed with lots of learning and fun!  We started our day in the muscle room singing “Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes” and “If Your Happy and You Know It”.  We then played “Duck, Duck, Goose” and “The Pumpkin in the Patch”.  Next, we headed back to the rainbow rug for some learning time.  We talked about tattling, had our color lesson (orange), our math lesson (Counting to 5, simple addition/subtraction of 1-5, and recognizing 1-5) and our science lesson (light). For the letter “G”, we  read “Goodnight Moon” and “Goodnight Goon”.  We got glow bracelets and read “Curious George and the Birthday Surprise.”  After lunch, we were able to fit in a little bit of recess time to end of our day.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News:  Goodness Gracious and Golly Gee!  What a great week learning about the letter “G”!  This week we read stories about our favorite monkey, Curious George.  We also read stories about Georgie, the Ghost.  We learned a “Spooky Loo” dance, sang “Moans and Groans” and participated in “Fly Little Bats” music and movement.  We recited the poem “Seven Monsters in a Row” by Maurice Sendak, learned a “Knock, Knock” poem and sang “What Costume Will You Where?”  We read “Go Away, Big Green Monster” by Ed Emberley and made Big green monsters at art.  We read “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat” and made bats for art.  We are looking forward to “H” week!

Friday Enrichment News-(Mrs. Susan)-This week we will continue with our Halloween theme.  The children enjoyed making their pumpkins, learning about pumpkins and “looking” for pumpkins in the pumpkin patch.  Ghosts will be our next lesson along with the letter H and the books “Halloween” and “Halloween Is” both by Gail Gibbons.  Hopefully they have created some decoration worthy Halloween art!  We are still working on name recognition and will start spelling our names once that is mastered.  Please remember to pack a separate snack for your child if they are staying for lunch.

Brown Bear/Polar Bear News:  Halloween fun is here!  This is one of our favorite units of the year.  We have a Ghost fingerplay and a Monster fingerplay that the children love.  They get to “scare” their teachers.  We do our fun Five Monsters feltboard story.  We have our feltboard Jack-o-Lantern to help us play “What is missing?” where we talk about the purposes of our eyes, nose and mouth – “When the Jack-o-Lantern is missing his mouth, he can’t eat his Halloween candy!”  We sing our “Jack-o-Lantern” song and our “Happy Monsters” song which helps us talk about emotions.  We can’t help but laugh when the kids try to make their sad and angry faces.  Toooo cute!  For art we used dotters to decorate our fish for the letter “F” and created a super cute Halloween project that we hope you love as much as we do.  We can’t wait to continue this fun next week.

A quick note about the 2′s class and the Halloween Party.  If you feel that your child will be more comfortable having you accompany them during the Halloween Parade, we strongly encourage that.  If you’re sure that your child will be fine, feel free to wait along the parade path and get some good pictures.  To those of you new to the Halloween Party, here is a heads-up.  The party is self-run by you and your child.  It does get loud and crowded.  If you are bringing younger siblings (which we encourage) it is helpful to bring another adult along.  Remember at the beginning of the party the entire two’s class will get up and perform some songs (or stand there and stare at you.)  Either way, it’s soooo cute!
