Mixed-up Chameleons News-Today was our last color day. We participated in “Parade of Colors” by Hap Palmer, showed our black items, did a color experiment, sang our black song and read “Bear Sees Colors”. We played “Duck, Duck, Goose” and “The Pumpkin in the Patch”. We read “The Hallo-Weiner” by Dav Pilkey and “There’s a Nightmare in My Closet” by Mercer Mayer. For art, we made “nightmares”. We participate in learning centers, lunch, recess and some Halloween fun!
Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News: This week we learned “H” is for Happy, sang “If your Happy and You Know It”, played the song “Happy” for clean-up time and learned the “Five Little Pumpkins” fingerplay which had some happy jack-o-lanterns in it. We learned that “H” is for “hoot” and read “Little Hoot”, a book donated by the Barry family. We learned “H” is for Halloween and read “Froggy’s Halloween”. We also read “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak.
Friday Enrichment News-The kids really enjoyed making their spooky ghosts. There was a lot of ghostly noises coming from our class today! This week there will be no class due to fall break. When we return, we will start our “Go Away Big Green Monster” by Ed Emberley unit.
Brown Bear/Polar Bear News: We are so excited for the Halloween party next week. We are looking forward to seeing all of the cute costumes! This week we continued all of our Halloween fun. We have been working hard on our Halloween songs to sing for you next week. Our letter this week was G and there was a guitar in our mystery box. Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Katrina demonstrated their air guitar skills. Thankfully, we had a very receptive audience. For art we played with homemade gak, glued a Halloween collage and we put faces on a pumpkin to make a jack-o-lantern. See you Tuesday!
A quick note about the 2′s class and the Halloween Party. If you feel that your child will be more comfortable having you accompany them during the Halloween Parade, we strongly encourage that. If you’re sure that your child will be fine, feel free to wait along the parade path and get some good pictures. To those of you new to the Halloween Party, here is a heads-up. The party is self-run by you and your child. It does get loud and crowded. If you are bringing younger siblings (which we encourage) it is helpful to bring another adult along. We will sing our songs at the beginning and then you are free to leave when ever you are done with the party.
