- Please wear GREEN and bring something GREEN to school today Mixed-up Chameleons!
Preschool Office News: (Mrs. Cindy)- Please note Sandy will be bringing her black lab, Banjo, to school one day next week to the VHC & VBS classes. Please let her know if you do not want your child to be around the dog. Please remember to keep all costume jewelry, sunglasses, capes, and other accessories to a minimum. These items have been getting lost, broken, or fought over, so this will help us to maintain the peace. 🙂
Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation class)- (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy) Today at preschool we worked on finishing assessing colors, shapes, name and age. We are also beginning to look at small motor skills. Please take some time during the next week to work with your child on beginning name writing and how to hold scissors appropriately, with thumbs up. To wrap up the letter “C”, we read a book about a crayon factory, (thanks Ian and Ella), and a talking crayon box. We also made our own crayons! (See the preschool site on information on how to do this at home.) We had a mini-lesson on the color yellow, and added a page to our “All About Me” book. We talked about how to be a good friend and how to be “Trey the Terrific Turtle”. We said “The Pledge of Allegiance”, learned about the planets, the continents, and where we live. At home: Play a “scavenger” hunt looking for different colors around the house. Work with your child in writing their name with a capital first letter and the lowercase letters. Try to encourage “pinchy” fingers. Make some letter flashcards and work with holding scissors with the thumb up and cutting on the lines.
Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News: (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy)- What a fun-filled week learning about the letter “C”! We had visits from cats, (thanks Cate Nugent and Mrs. Katrina), gave a mouse a cookie, (thanks Cooper Hinkel and Jarred Klebanow), played the cymbals, (thanks Ani Doughtery) and even had Cookie Monster come in for a visit! (Thanks Maddox Fox). We learned that the letter “C” can make two sounds: a hard and soft (like a s) sound. We also read books about cats, mice, and even had a visit from our favorite Big Red Dog, Clifford! Since yellow was our color this week, we found things that were the color yellow, like bus, (we sang “The Wheels on the Bus”,), banana, (we sang “We like to eat apples and bananas”, ) and a Think. (We read the book “Oh the Things You Can Think” by Dr. Seuss). In our second learning time, we participated in a music and movement song, “Simon Says”, went over our school rules, focusing on attitude, and clowning around, (not), and played the “backpack game”. At home: Keep working on having your child sit “criss, cross, applesauce”. Also, spend some time with color recognition and shape recognition: Circle, triangle, square, and rectangle, for 3 years old, add star, heart, diamond/rhombus, and hexagon/octagon for the older children. Please note that many students are having a difficult time with shape recognition, especially rectangle.
Brown Bear/Polar Bear News: (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)-
Happy Friday! This week was mostly a continuation of the past two weeks. At the beginning of the year especially, the children really enjoy and benefit from the repition of our lesson plans. Some of the children who were just staring wide-eyed in the beginning, are now enjoying shouting out the answers and singing along with the songs. (A few are still just staring wide-eyed which is totally okay.) We did add Shape Dog to the mix this week. Although his name is Shape Dog, he does not know his shapes at all. It usually takes Shape Dog four tries to find the shape he was looking for. Thankfully, the kids are there to tell him when he has made a mistake. And, we always clap for Shape Dog when he finally gets it right! Today, he found the star with the help of the kids. Our letter this week was B. During art, the kids did a great job painting. We are having some issues with to much physical contact. Although sometimes a child just intends to give a hug, with the balance of two year olds, the recipient is often knocked to the ground. With 11 kids in a classroom, physical play can easily get out of hand. So our rule at school is simply no touching our friends. If you could help explain this rule to your children we would greatly appreciate it. We really strive to keep everyone safe and happy at school.
Friday Fun News-(Mrs. Susan)-(9:15-11:45) The children really enjoyed painting their underwater picture today! Next week we will finish our unit about oceans with some fun at the beach. The letter this week will be D. Again, please have your child bring in an item that starts with D to share during group time. This week the children were introduced to the green, yellow, orange and red card reminders in the Friday room. This is the same system they use in the multi-age class. We are also working on mastering our name recognition and then will move onto spelling our names.
