Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Pre-K)- (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy) (9:15-1)  The day started off with a rousing round of learning centers.  Some of today’s favorite stops were the playdough table, the grocery store, the large magnetic connectables, and the large vehicles.  For art, the students created a red color collage.  For gym time, we went to the muscle room. Our mini-lesson today was about colors.  We read the book My World of Color by Margaret Wise Brown, participated in “Colors”, a movement and music song by Hap Palmer, and had a color show and tell.  Our practical assessment was a color by number sheet where we were evaluating color recognition, following simple directions, and name writing abilities.  The day came to an end with lunch, recess, and a time to learn more about our school rules.  Today Oscar and Trey were talking about whining and read the book No Biting, Horrible Crocodile.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News:  (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy)- This week at school, we learned how to sit on the rainbow rug, and watch Mrs. Sandy’s pointer stick.  We sang our “Welcome song”, which helps us learn our friends names, moved our bodies to the sound the slide whistle makes, and performed movement activities to the song “Good Morning” by Greg & Steve.  We learned about the color red and had a special visit from Clifford, the Big Red Dog.  We read the story Cat’s Colors and Cookies’ Week.  We worked on learning that our month is September and the names of the days of the week.  We also talked about the letter “A” being a vowel and making two sounds:  a short A sound and a long A sound.  We sang a song about the letter A and included the names of our friends whose names started with the letter A.  We also guessed what was in Mrs. Sandy’s Superman backpack that started with the letter A.  One day was an apple and the next day was applesauce!  We learned more about our HOW I ACT plan and focused on Hulabaloo and Out of Order using our friends Trey the Terrific Turtle and Oscar the Ornery Octopus.  We also talked about consequences to our choices and color cards and what they meant.  We read the books No, David  and David Goes to School both by David Shannon.    For assessment, we started evaluating color and shape recognition.  Next week we move on to blue, B, triangle, and the number 1, as well as continuing to work through our HOW I ACT plan

Panda Bear News:  (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)- The two year old class had a very successful first full week. The kids and parents should all be very proud of how well everyone did with separation this week. We know how hard it is to leave your child when they are crying or to leave your child with a roomful of children who are crying. But, rest assured by the time we went to art, we had a happy group of kids with not a single tear in sight. We kept it simple today and played with play dough for art time. At circle time, we read two stories, did our fish felt board story, sang three songs, and played Simon Says. The children really seemed to think it was neat that they got to eat a snack at school. We had crackers, cheese and strawberries. Only two children dumped their water! (That’s a success!) The kids did a fabulous job walking down the hall in a line today. In the next couple of weeks you might hear them singing our hallway song, “Put your finger on the wall.” Lastly, the kids had a good time outside playing. It has been fun getting to know your children this week. They are a great group!

Friday Fun News-(Mrs. Susan)-(9:15-11:45)  This next week we will continue learning our routine, other classmates and decorating our classroom.  Our letter for the week is B.  Please have your child bring in an item that starts with the letter B for us to discuss in group time.  Also, for those of you who will have a child staying for lunch with Mrs. Kim, please pack a separate snack and lunch.  The snack will go on the wagon outside the Friday room while the lunch will go on the wagon outside Mrs. Kim’s room.
