Teaching Opposites

One of the goals and objectives for preschoolers is to learn opposites.  The following are a few ideas to help learn this concept.

  1.  Start by giving an example of what an opposite is.  Ice is cold; Hot chocolate is hot; etc.
  2. Say the first part of an opposite and then have your child complete the opposite.  (Please not saying not cold, in not correct.) Examples-Loud and Quiet, Awake and Asleep, Big and Small, etc.
  3. Make an opposite book.
  4. Read a book that contains opposites.
  5. Try to practice at random times to make sure your preschooler is comprehending the skill.
