Weekly Round-up-September 3-7

Each Friday I will post the latest news from the classroom teachers and the Weekly Round-up on our preschool site.  The e-mails from the preschool site have a 24 hour lag time, so you will receive an e-mail update on Saturday, but if you do your planning for the next week on Friday, please know that most days, (unless I’m sick), the information will be up on Friday.  The teaching staff is very happy with the group of students we have this year and we are all looking forward to a very successful school year!  Please remember that it is a great idea to check the preschool site weekly to keep up to date on snack days, the calendar, and the color days that are beginning for the Kindergarten Preparation class.

We would appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Cindy Stegman and her family.  Her husband Jim’s mother passed last week and services are being held this weekend.  Also, her 28 year old daughter, Emily, will be undergoing surgery on Tuesday to remove cancerous lymph nodes.  Since Emily’s surgery is on Tuesday, Cindy will not be at school on that day.  We will have the office open, so if you have papers, or supplies to turn in, please leave them on her desk.

Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation)- (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy) (9-1) What a wonderful group of students we have this year in the Mixed-up Chameleons class!  This class has started off the year being one of the most teachable classes I have experienced in a long time.  We started off the day with learning centers and then moved to group time where we learned how to sit nicely on the rainbow rug, sang our welcome song that helps us learn all of our friends names, danced to “Good Morning” by Steve and Greg, introduced the color red, learned a days of the week song, and sang our “ABC song”.  We also had a special visit from Clifford, the Big Red Dog, and read “Clifford’s first school day” and “Clifford the Little Puppy”, both by Norman Bridwell.  We survived one puking incident and one bloody nose.  For gym today, we played in the muscle room and went outside for recess after eating lunch together.  We also talked about the HOW I ACT rules we have at preschool, learned about color cards and how each student always wants to keep their card on green, and met Trey the terrific turtle and Oscar the ornery Octopus.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News:  (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy)- Next week we will be learning about the color red, circles, the letter A, and the number one.  We will be working on crayon control and coloring.  We will also be learning our school rules, the names of our classmates, and about being a good friend.  We will be participating in music and movement songs such as “This is the Way we Get up in the Morning” and reading books about starting school.   We will meet Buffy, the dog who was afraid to come to school, Trey the Terrific Turtle and Oscar the ornery Octopus.  Clifford the Big Red Dog might also make an appearance!

Panda Bear News:  (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)-Next week we will be working on easing separation anxiety, getting to know each other, and our school routine.

Friday Enrichment News-(Mrs. Susan)-(9:15-11:45)  We had our first Friday Enrichment class of the school year and what a fun group of boys and girls!  Next week we will be working on getting to know each other, our Friday school routine and the letter A.  Please have your child bring in something that starts with the letter A for him/her to show during learning time.  The first few weeks of school our art projects will focus on decorating our art room and giving the children a sense of ownership of their school.  Please send a small snack with your child on Fridays in a paper sack with their name on it.  Great snacks include grapes, apples, granola bars, graham crackers, cheese sticks, etc.

Preschool Office News:  (Mrs. Cindy)- Just a reminder from the preschool office to turn in any outstanding forms, change of clothes, supplies, and summer fun activities.
