Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation Class):   We started the day off with our learning centers and assessments.  We worked on finishing up assessing colors, shapes, age, full name, and began to work with students on name writing skills.  During learning time, we went over our usual items, and added a lesson on geography and planets, brainstormed words that started with the letter B,  played a game with a ball & bubbles, sang a song about a bumble bee, worked on learning the Pledge, and read a poem about friends.  Our mini-lesson was on the color blue and we read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By Eric Carle and worked on a page to add to our “All about Me Books”.  We made blue color collages for art, played in the muscle room for gym, worked on manners at lunch, and ended the day with a book called “Dinofours: Time for School” by Steve Metzger and playing the backpack game.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News:  (Mrs. Sandy & Mrs. Mandy)-  This week we have been busy with the letter “B”.  We found some interesting items that start with “B” in Mrs. Sandy’s backpack, like bus, banana, and the “B” book.  We read the books The Wheels on the Bus and The Wheels on the School Bus.  While we were learning about the color blue, loveable, furry Grover stopped by for a visit and we read the book There is a Monster at the End of This Book.  We worked on learning the number 1 and rocked the school with the song “The Number Rock”.  We talked about how to get ready for preschool, and participated in the music and movement song “This is the Way we Get up in the Morning” by Hap Palmer.  We also had a flannel board activity to go with this lesson.  Our shape for the week was an equilateral triangle.  We also continued our daily calendar activities, including recognizing “September”, learning the days of the week, and date.  We continued working on learning how to be a “terrific turtle” and not an “ornery octopus”.  We also continued to review our “color cards” and HOW I ACT  chart, with a focus on Intentional Disobedience and Attitude.   We are looking for some help next week for “C” week.  Please refer to our blog post for volunteering opportunities.

Friday Fun News-(Mrs. Susan)-(9:15-11:45)  For the next two weeks we will be diving into our ocean unit.   The letter this week is C.  Please have your child bring in an item that starts with the letter C to share during group time.  Thanks to all the parents for separating your child’s snack and lunch.  It really helped the children.  Just a reminder, please have your child use the bathroom before school starts.

Panda Bear News:  (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)-The two’s had another great week. The children are enjoying the toys during free play. And with some coaching, everyone is getting used to the idea of sharing. Circle time has been a lot of fun. The fish felt board story, which teaches colors and counting, is a huge hit. Some of the kids are even requesting it. We have been singing, “Hello Song,” “Caught a Fish,” “Wheels on the Bus,” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” Our letter this week was A. We have been reading “If I Were an Animal,” and “Dinosaur Stomp.”. The children are doing well with Simon Says, which the special helper gets to start. Today, Sammi had everyone roaring for her pick. Have a great weekend!
