Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation Class)-Today we had a number lesson the number 15.  We noticed a lot of students can get to 14 and then skip 15, and say 16.  We practiced grouping objects in groups of 5’s.  We counted by 5’s and then subtracted by 5’s.  We worked on one to one correspondence with counting and number recognition.  Today we talked about the months of the year and grouped our preschool pals by their birthday month, finding out that most of birthday’s are in September!  We read “Chicken Soup With Rice” by Maurice Sendak. We listened to a song in English and Spanish included the month’s of the year.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News:  This week we learned more about “People in our Neighborhood” to go with our letter of the week: “P”.  We practiced for our upcoming Community Helper Program and made some “mouths” for art using icing and marshmallows.  We read the book “Clifford visits the Hospital”, practiced estimating, worked on patterning, and read the poem “The Buckle Up News”.

Friday Enrichment Class-– Last week the children learned all about birds and made wonderful bird feeders to hang in your yard.  This week we will be expanding on the snow theme by talking about hibernation, in particular bears.  The children will get to make a circle bear and go on a bear hunt!  This week’s letter is P.  We will also be moving on to learning how to spell our names.  The children have all mastered name recognition so we are onto the next step.

Panda Bear News:  We will be starting the feltboard story “Five Little Snowmen” and our movement exercise “Put Your Snow Clothes On.”  We will  also start our community helper songs which include, “Brush Your Teeth,” “Mr. Grocer,” and “Be a Cook.”  Our letter next week is N and the shape will be a circle.  We will start  “The Silly Dance Contest” and do some “silly” dancing next week.
