Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation Class- Today we worked really hard during our learning center times. We broke into 3 teams, red, blue, and yellow and rotated through our centers. At center 1, we worked on making bracelets and played with playdough, at center 2, we worked on writing our names in appropriate capital and lowercase letters, drawing pictures of our families, and on holiday puzzles and patterning, at center 3, we could build or pretend in the dramatic play area, and in center 4, we could read, pretend with the dollhouse, or work with math manipulates. We then went to our group learning time. We sang our “Welcome song” and Maggie Brennan picked to help lead the “Good Morning” song. We decided our colors for the next 3 weeks should be holiday colors, and picked red, green, and white. We updated our class calendar to get ready for December, talked about the numbers nine and ten, and had a shape lesson about squares. We also wrapped up our great unit on Kindness by reviewing our week and talking about how we can show kindness not only to our preschool pals, family, animals, but also the earth.
Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News: What a great week on Kindness! We read the book How Full is Your Bucket that Emilia Sherwood let us borrow. This book really helped us understand how to be kind to others and I would highly recommend it to read to your families. We brainstormed ideas of how to be kind to our preschool pals and exchanged envelopes to send something special to our preschool pen pal. We read a book about families borrowed from Olive Barry, and had some special family members visit: Maggie and Charlie’s grandma, John Meis’s sisters, Jack Cavanaugh’s brother and sister, and Darby’s mom. The students seemed very interested to hear from these family members. We read a book about called McDuff Moves In by Rosemary Wells from Drew Geygan., and thought about how to be kind to animals. We also read a book called Fall Friends and talked about how we can be kind to the earth.
Friday Enrichment News-(Mrs. Susan)- We have just started our Holiday unit! The children started with making Advent chains to help them count down till Christmas. Remember to take one chain off each day till Christmas! During our Holiday unit, the children will also be making their own Christmas trees as well as some ornaments to help decorate your own tree at home. This week’s letter is L.
Brown Bear/Polar Bear News: (Mrs. Katrina & Mrs. Kim)- We are enjoying Christmas fun this month. We have the “Five Little Reindeer” felt board story and our “Santa” fingerplay. We are reading Christmas themed stories and singing “Jingle Bells” and “Are You Sleeping.” (The children are especially good at shouting “Hey!”) For music and movement, we have been doing the “Reindeer Pokey.” The letter next week will be K. The children will be picking out some very special gifts for everyone on Monday. We’re excited for you to open them at the Christmas party.
