Preschool Office News: See you at the open house on Tuesday!

Mixed-up Chameleons News-(Kindergarten Preparation Class)– Today we ended our unit “F is for Fire Safety” with a Fire Safety Extravaganza!  We made a list of all the things we learned in our unit and practiced each one.  Our “biggies” were stop, drop, and roll, crawl low under smoke, go to a meeting place, call 911, and never play with dangerous fire things.  We played “Duck, Duck, Goose”  and “The Farmer in the Dell” where the cheese stands alone.  We sang “If You Are Happy and You Know It”, “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, “Father Abraham”, “This Little Light of Mine”, “Joy, Joy, Joy,” “Deep and Wide” and “Boom Chicka Boom”.  We learned about the color purple and did straw blowing paint art.  We also had our dance contest which we do mainly for exercise, fun and to teach about good sportsmanship.  Keep doing your homework and practicing to write your name at home.

Very Hungry Caterpillar and Very Busy Spider News: Fantastic fun was had by all for F week! We were able to learn a ton of things about fire safety. This week we talked about how to “Stop, Drop, and Roll” if our clothes are on fire, to crawl low in smoke, to have a family meeting place outside if there ever was a fire in our house, how smoke detectors work, to never play with matches, and that firemen are our friends.  We sang “I’m Fire Safety Dog”, “Never Play With Matches”, “Fireman Matt” and “The Fireman”.  We also dissussed what is safe and what is not using different examples.

Friday Enrichment News- The letter F brought us fish, frogs, and the farm. The kids loved Dr. Seuss’s One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish for art. We also enjoyed reading Fish Eyes by Lois Ehlert and The wide-mouthed frog (a pop-up book) by Keith Faulkner.  This week we also started on some basic counting with a farm themed math worksheet.  Please be sure to have your child show you their weekly art project on our class bulletin board in the hallway. They work very hard every week on their projects! Please be assured that this work is all their own! We show them an example of the project each week and give them the neccessary materials- everything else is their interpretation and imagination! Next week we will be reading “The Gruffalo”, “Grumpy Goat” and a few other books with the letter G as their theme.  Please bring a picture that starts with the letter G for our letter wall.

Panda Bear News: We started learning all of our Halloween themed songs, fingerplays, and feltboard stories .  Our letter was E and we had a special visit from Enor the elephant. There was also an elephant in our letter mystery box. In art this week, we painted pumpkins orange, made a picture of the earth for the letter E, and glued together fire trucks.  The kids also enjoyed the special attention and extra help they got from Mrs. Denise’s granddaughter Maggie and Mrs. Kim’s daughter Kathleen on Tuesday!
